Seasons of Waiting + Celebrating Growth

April 12, 2021

Growth is growth - no matter how small and even during seasons of waiting.

It’s no secret that the past year has brought its fair share of setbacks. Canceled vacations, postponed events, rescheduled plans, physical and social distance between loved ones… living in a pandemic can really weigh you down on some days.

With that said, I have learned that when life is pulling you back or “slowing” you down, it’ll likely launch you into something incredible. Life is about to get really exciting for us, and we can’t wait to share more on what’s next! But until it’s the perfect time to share, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the importance of: Seasons of Waiting.

Holding on to hope, and dreaming up plans for the future are the two things that keep our chins up, when facing all the adversity we’ve experienced the past couple of years.

Lucas’ sudden deployment, a global pandemic, his delay in coming home from Afghanistan, ever-changing wedding plans, a reduced guest list for our intimate wedding ceremony, a postponed formal reception, a delayed honeymoon, and to top it all off, military orders to uproot from our hometown and move across the country...

You could say that we’ve had our fair share of challenges in 2019 and 2020, but honestly, we accept that that’s just how life goes.

Living in a pandemic has only amplified the life lessons that were taught to us, in a shorter amount of time, but they were still lessons meant to be learned regardless of the unfortunate timing.

We were in a season of waiting for a vaccine to roll out to help fight the global pandemic.

We were in a season of waiting when Lucas was deployed to Afghanistan; the pandemic also caused delays in his return home in May 2020, extending his deployment even longer.

We were in a season of waiting when we were planning our wedding in August 2020 around ever-changing safety regulations, waiting to say “I Do”, but in the safest way possible.

We were in a season of waiting when we finally did get married, but had to postpone our honeymoon due to the pandemic, and also because we had to get packed and ready to move across the country in 1 month.

And now that we moved to New England in September 2020, we were feeling as if we were in another season of waiting - waiting to go back home to Washington to “start” the lives we had dreamt for ourselves before receiving these military orders.

It took me a few months of living in Boston to come to the conclusion that although we’ll be in a season of waiting for quite some time, we don’t have to keep pausing our goals just because we’re in a different state. Sure, living in the North East part of the country wasn’t part of the original plan, but I have since realized that we can still strive towards our goals and make the most out of the short time that we have here.

So here we are, learning how to celebrate growth - no matter how small, even during seasons of waiting. Reminding ourselves that moments of learning and waiting will only prepare us for the plans and goals we’re dreaming for the future.

Big + Small Moments of Growth We’re Celebrating:

  • We settled into a healthy work/life balance

  • We received our first dose of the covid-19 vaccine

  • We planned our postponed wedding reception

  • We booked our delayed honeymoon in our dream destination

While we’re still not quite where we hoped to be at this point in our lives, we’re getting back on track very soon. Every setback is an opportunity for a great comeback, and boy, are we EXCITED to share the news with you all soon!

Until the right moment arrives, what moments of growth are you celebrating? Have you also been feeling stuck in a season of waiting?

‘Til the next one,
Gen
