Traveling during the holiday season is always a busy time of year, but the 2021-2022 holiday travel season felt like it was on another level of chaos this year. Thousands of flights were canceled per day (starting the week prior to Christmas, and affecting flights through the first week of January). Not only were there just more passengers traveling than usual, but flight crews were calling out sick due to Covid-19 exposures, and snow and ice created even more delays and cancellations in many parts of the country - including SeaTac!
Of course, flying home to see family is always worth the stress that can come with traveling. And flying in general (especially during the holiday season!), just requires you to prepare for the unexpected and to stay flexible. With that in mind, we also believe that exercising empathy was the key to us surviving a holiday travel season as chaotic as 2021’s, and we believe that our patience was rewarded with good karma this year – landing us our very first, first-class experience with Alaska Airlines!
(Yes - even our cat, Sherbert, flew first class with us!)

I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news… but I have to admit that it’s utterly impossible to explore the entirety of Boston all in one day. That said, the good news is that you can fit in a ton of Boston charm into one full day, because of how walkable the city is!
Maybe you have a Sunday free to drive to downtown, or maybe you’re on a New England road trip and can only spare 12-24 hours in America’s Walking City - based on places we've experienced for ourselves, here’s what I recommend you see and do while you’re visiting Boston, MA for a day!
We created the ULTIMATE New England Bucket List! Here’s a list of 50 things we want to see and do before our military contract in the Northeast comes to a close. Let us know if we have any Bucket List activities in common, if you’ve crossed any off of your list already, or if you have additional suggestions!
So far, we've completed 21 out of 50 (42% complete!).
*Disclaimer: Since we're based in Massachusetts, it's a little more MA-focused!*

Rather suddenly, Lucas received military orders for a permanent change of station in Boston, Massachusetts by early September. Given that our wedding occurred in early August, the new orders only allowed us for 1 month of preparation in-between before moving to the other side of the country.
With the military’s assistance coordinating most of our belongings through a moving service, we decided to embrace the unique opportunity to drive coast-to-coast across the entire United States of America! Based on my research, most people recommended 1-2 weeks minimum when driving across the country. If we had the time to do so, we definitely would have taken more time to soak in more cities. Although we were excited to explore along the way, we were even more eager to settle into our temporary home. Therefore, we spent only six days total driving from Seattle to Boston.
